Dentures

Dentures are prosthetic devices replacing lost teeth. There are two types of dentures – partial and full. Full dentures are often referred to as “false teeth”.

Partial dentures are built with the base of pink or gum colored plastic or sometimes with metal framework to support the teeth which needs to replace. Dentures built with metal framework generally have traditional design. Partial Dentures used when one or more teeth remains in upper or lower jaw.

A fixed bridge replaces one or more teeth by placing crowns on the teeth on either side of the space and attaching artificial teeth to them. This “bridge” is then cemented into place. Not only does a partial denture fill in missing teeth, it prevents other teeth from changing position. Partial denture is removable and more natural-looking.

Full denture or complete dentures are made of a plastic base that is colored to replicate gum tissues. Full dentures either are “Conventional” or “Immediate”. It is held in mouth by forming a seal with gums. Full dentures can also be placed surgically in the bones of jaws. In compared to partial dentures, full dentures are much more expensive.
