A gummy smile usually means you have extra, bulky gum tissue. You may feel like this excess tissue detracts from the appearance of your smile. A typical or ideal smile exposes generally no more than 2 millimeters of upper gum tissues, whereas a gummy smile may show 3 millimeters or more of upper gum tissues. People with a “gummy” smile may feel their teeth are too short or too small in proportion to your gum line. May be reluctant to smile, or even self-conscious about their smile. However, it can be improved through Botox treatment. BOTOX injections prevent your upper lip from rising too high, which exposes the excess gum tissue above the upper row of your teeth.
